[Results] The First Official WAGC Qualifier and 5 More to Come

Want to Represent the Philippines in the World Finals in Malaysia?

April 28, 2017 marked the beginning of a changing tide in the game of golf here in the Philippines. Throughout the year, literally hundreds of tournaments are thrown nationwide. All of these tournaments vary merely by the causes they support, the corporations that sponsor them and the clientele they serve, but none pull the nation together to play for something greater. What happens after the tournament is over?

GolfPH successfully launched its celebrated partnership with the World Amateur Golfers Championship (WAGC) organization through the Philippines’ first-ever qualifying WAGC tournament – GolfPH’s annual Par Tee At The Greens Tournament held at the prestigious Wack Wack Golf and Country Club last April 28, 2017.

At stake were five slots to the national finals scheduled in October this year.  Over 124 golfers teed off early to take on the narrow fairways and slippery greens of Wack Wack’s challenging West Course under a stroke play net handicap format, all hoping to be part of the first batch of national finals qualifiers.

Congratulations To The First 5 National Finalists

In the end, it was Augusto de Jesus lording it over Division 1, Alan Alegre besting Division 2, Jaime Melo bagging Division 3, Francis Talion winning Division 4, and Kathy Uy running away with Division 5.

It wasn’t all competitive play during the tournament as “fun” hole awards such as Closest to the Pin (hole 3), Longest Drive (hole 7), Longest Putt (hole 10) and Most Accurate Drive (hole 12) were also handed out.  Back in the clubhouse, players feasted on a hearty lunch buffet and enjoyed the sponsor display booths.

More fun followed in the program hosted by former PBA player, Vince Hizon, and his co-host, Ana Betita, both of whom picked out the lucky major and minor raffle prize winners and had players join in some parlor games.

It wasn’t just all fun and games during the program since a portion of the proceeds from the event were given out to the anti-child trafficking organization, Love 146.  Errol Chua, managing partner and VP of Marketing for GolfPH, presented the PhP50,000.00 check donation to Love 146’s representatives.

All in all, it was another successful event by GolfPH that makes the amateur golfing landscape more exciting through its collaboration with the WAGC.

Special thanks to Bluespark Solutions who co-presented the event.  A heartfelt thanks go out to all our sponsors who made the event possible — Alveo, Nissan / Suzuki, Ayalaland, Foton, Stronghold Insurance, Camella, Trojan Batteries, PAGCOR, Katana Techworks, VSO Group of Companies, Bacardi, Azalea, Kapihan ni Igan, MFC, Pleasure Place, Anagen, Cardia Olympia, WAGC, The Plaza, K & G, and Custom Club Makers.
