Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club—City Golf Has Never Been This Good
Camp Aguinaldo: Introduction And My First Impression
Golfers don’t always have the time to travel north or south of the Metro in search of a good golf game. There are actually many public golf courses within the metropolis where business people can play a short round of golf before heading for work.
I decided to write a review on a public course because there are so little reviews on these yet so many people play in them. And when I played in of them a few weeks back, I realized that the Camp Aguinaldo Golf Course was one the very best among these public courses.
The fact that local professional golfers like Jennifer Rosales and Gerald Rosales play here only attests to this fact.
Since its humble beginnings as a 9-hole course back in 1961, the military-owned Camp Aguinaldo has grown into a complete 18-hole golf course. Foreign and local business people alike love playing there because of its accessibility.
For those working in the Makati area, the golf course is only 20 minutes away when traveling by car or taxi and 10 minutes away by train (MRT).
When I arrived at Camp Aguinaldo at 6 in the morning I saw that there were already plenty of golfers playing there. Apparently, most of them come as early as 5:30 in the morning, so they can finish 9-holes before going to work.
But that morning I was there to play through the entire 18 holes. I was able to rent a golf cart and hire a caddy before heading onto the fairways.
The wind—usually strong from March to July—wasn’t much a factor during my game. After playing a couple of holes, I noticed that this golf course had a lot of water hazards. While giving me more of a challenge, this was actually a good thing because it provided a lot of variety to the short course.
Among the predominantly short par 3 holes, there are a few that stand out from the rest.
See The Best Of What Camp Aguinaldo Has To Offer
Camp Aguinaldo’s signature hole is a par 3 island green. A strong hitter can successfully hit the ball over the water hazard in a single shot and putt the ball in the hole for birdie. But those who want to play it safe will need to use an iron to position the ball right before the water. From here, they can hit the ball onto the green before putting it in for par.
But the eighth hole is not the most difficult in this golf course. Instead, it is the fourth hole which is the most challenging. This par 5 is one of the longest in Camp Aguinaldo. You must first navigate your ball along the semi dog leg fairway. Then, you need to hit it over a large lake before you tapping the ball into the hole.
Long hitters will be very comfortable with this hole as they can reach the front of the lake within two shots. If they accomplish this they will be in a very good position to make birdie.
Indeed, Camp Aguinaldo is a golf course that makes up for what it lacks in distance with tight and challenging fairways. And by the time I reached the 18th hole, I was glad to have played through a difficult yet fun golf course. With its tight fairway lined with tall trees—and the picturesque view of the clubhouse veranda when you see as you near the flag—the final hole is indeed the most beautiful.
The 18th serves as a relaxing end to a great golf game, if you ask me.
Green fees for this golf course are very affordable. And if you are a member of the military, you only need to pay 100 pesos for golf course maintenance. You can also get 50% off on green fees if you play there after 3pm during weekdays. Surely, you should take advantage of this twilight rate while you still can.
If you want to enjoy a good golf game without needing to drive out of the city, then you should definitely play at Camp Aguinaldo. For a complete listing of green fees for this golf course, feel free to check out the rest of our page on the Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club.
